I recently bought a cheap domain name with a Registrar and set up a Hosting A/C with another Hosting Company. Feeling very pleased with myself, I then typed the domain name into the address bar - and nothing happened. Only then did I realise what the problem was - I had forgotten all about changing Hostname!
Let me explain.
When you type in your domain name, your request is sent to your Registrar - the company that provided you with the domain name. The Registrar then sends you to where the Website is hosted.
Now, what you need to remember is that your Registrar and your Hosting Co. are often two entirely different companies. Some Registrars also provide hosting - at a price. It usually makes more sense to buy the cheapest domain name you can find and then host with a more reputable company.
So, assuming that you are indeed working with two separate companies, your Registrar will not know who you are hosting with. You need to do something to link your Registrar with your Hosting A/C.
How do you do that?
You need to change the Registrar's NAMESERVER details to those of your own Hosting A/C - you're really just changing hostname.
