You know the domain name you want and it fits your niche perfectly. You have spent hours thinking of your perfect domain name. But when you go to type in the words those horrible red letters appear on the screen. Someone has already taken Your Name!
Unfortunately choosing a domain name is a little more complex than coming up with a baby name because no two names can be the same. But with a little creativity that perfect domain name can still be yours.
First, you always want a .com. It is easy for people to remember, everyone is familiar with the term, so why complicate things? Even the search engines favor .com. When you see that horrible red text telling you that the .com you want is taken, do not be tempted to buy a .net, a .biz or any other domain that is available with your chosen name - even if they cost less.
Adding numbers or dashes to obtain your chosen domain name is also a bad idea. People just do not remember numbers as easy as they remember words. Dashes and dots between a word will create the same problem and make your perfect name sound disjointed.
Sticking firmly to your .com, try adding a short word to your chosen domain name. Some good ones that can easily be added to most names are Edge, Daily, Hub, Box, Site, Day, Line, Entity, World, Host, Buzz, Booth, Value, Plus, Zone, Geeks, Club, Area, Hot, Town, Zip, Mall, Gem, Plaza, Life.
For example if your chosen domain name is 'MakeMusic' it could become 'MakeMusicHub' or 'MakeMusicDaily.' Also, try making the name plural or adding 'ing' to one of the words. For example if you want the domain name 'DogHotel' because that is already the name of your kennel business then try 'DogsHotel ' or 'DogHoteling.' You can also add the name of your town if you are mostly looking for local business.
If you are not the creative kind, then take a look in the dictionary for ideas, check out book titles and business names. Words are important, especially on line. Make sure your primary key word is in your name. Try to keep it down to two or three short words, making it easy for people to remember. Do not give up on that .com. There is a domain name out there waiting to be created by you!
